Our Man Crush Monday pick, Robbie Amell, isn’t the only reason to see The DUFF this weekend (though, those amazing pecs of his certainly help) — our BFF, Bella Thorne, has a major part in the flick, too! However, she plays far from the Bella you all know and love…

In the upcoming movie, in theaters this Friday, February 20, the 17-year-old redhead portrays a total mean girl. You’re gonna love how much you hate her. But, before the big day comes when you can see her on the big screen, you need to read our latest interview. Here are six fun secrets we learned about Bella Thorne/The DUFF:

Tell us a little about your character in The DUFF.

"Madison Montgomery, well, she's a mean girl, I'm not gonna lie. She is very insecure about herself and that is why she bullies Mae's character; she's afraid she's going to take her boyfriend from her."

Do you enjoy playing the mean girl?

"It's not my favorite role to play, especially in this film because Mae is so adorable and cute. She's only 5'0" and I'm 5'8," and I felt like I was devouring her standing over her, being in her face all the time."

Madison is the popular girl, but what were you like in school?

"I stopped regular school at third grade because of my dyslexia, so I was bullied heavily in school and then I've been home-schooled the rest of my life, so I didn't necessarily have an experience like that."

We think of The DUFF as the modern version of some of our '90s faves, like She's All That & 10 Things I Hate About You. What are some of your fave teen films?

"My favorite teen movies are Jawbreaker... I love Mean Girls; Jennifer's Body is one of my favorites, their lingo in Jennifer's Body is kind of like the lingo in our film."

Robbie's character tells Mae's character all of these moves for her date with Toby. (Darkly lit, if he leans in, if he's trying to impress her, etc.) Do you agree with his tips/rules?

"Oh gosh, this movie made me looking at dating in a completely whole, different light. It's true, you don't want to sit across from someone, I want to sit next to them, you want your knees touching, I feel like that's always a good thing. The lighting, you know, you don't want it too bright because you don't want to see all this. Like, you don't want to get a really close, high definition of this."

Do you have a favorite part of the movie that you're excited for the fans to see?

"I'm excited to see my first makeout scene because it's really, really, funny. And I'm excited for them to see this scene between Mae and Robbie. They're on the track and she does this monster voice — it's one of my favorite parts of the movie."

Was the makeout scene awkward for you?

"My first kiss on screen was very awkward, but this one wasn't awkward. Robbie made me feel very comfortable, so that was great. I always tell them they can't eat mints, they try to pop mints before each take, but I hate mints, they make me nauseous. I rather them be popping garlic."

You're becoming such a well-known actress, but do you still get starstruck yourself?

"I was completely star-struck when I met Terry Crews. White Chicks is one of my favorite movies. When I saw him, I freaked out across the table read. I looked back to my mom and I was like, 'Mommy, mommy, it's White Chicks,' and she had no idea what I was talking about. There was a certain part in the movie where he does this funny-looking tongue thing and it looked so big, but I asked him to do it for me in real life and he did it."
