In The DUFF, Bella Thorne portrayed the bratty queen of high school, Madison. On Shake It Up!, she was an adventurous, upbeat dancer. When it comes to her new show Scream, however, the 17-year-old actress is tapping into a whole new side of herself — a person who’s being followed by a murderer.
Not to be confused with Fox’s Scream Queens, MTV’s Scream is a television adaptation of the highly popular horror film series of the same name. While Bella is only credited as a guest-star, the trailer shows that her character (Nina Patterson) is an integral part of the story. For all you scary movie bluffs out there, think Drew Barrymore’s character in the 1996 flick. Here’s the show’s official summary:
What starts as a YouTube video going viral, soon leads to problems for the teenagers of Lakewood and serves as the catalyst for a murder that opens up a window to the town’s troubled past. Everyone has secrets. Everyone tells lies. Everyone is fair game.
While the show is obviously very similar to the Scream movies, we can’t help but notice some similarities it has with another scary TV fave — Pretty Little Liars. A murder on the loose…a group of teenagers trying to figure out how to survive and how to stop him/her…a town called LakeWOOD…is anyone else seeing what we’re saying here??

Scream also stars Willa Fitzgerald, Bex Taylor-Klaus and Carlson Young and will premiere on Tuesday, June 30 at 10pm ET on MTV.
