Every year, we’re always blown away by the celebrity couples that called it quits within the 365-day span. Last year, favorites like Zayn Malik & Perrie Edwards, Nick Jonas & Olivia Culpo and Jamie Campbell Bower & Lily Collins gave fans the shock of their lives when they gave up on their respective relationships.

And 2016 was no different: After boasting about how in love she was with girlfriend Alicia Cargile, Kristen Stewart and her on-again/off-again love broke up yet again, and she quickly moved on to Cara Delevingne‘s ex, St. Vincent. But we guess that shouldn’t have been too surprising, considering how often they head to Splitville.

What was really surprising was when Zayn Malik & Gigi Hadid reportedly split 24 hours after her bestie, Taylor Swift, and her boo, Calvin Harris, said g’bye to their relationship. BUT, in the case of Zigi, the pair got back together within the week. The following 16 pairings, though, all started out 2016 as a couple and couldn’t last throughout its duration:

Taylor Swift & Calvin Harris

On June 1, People dropped the bomb that, after a year and 3 months of romance, Talvin called it quits.

It claimed, "There was no drama" surrounding the breakup; "things just don't work out sometimes. No one cheated."

The even bigger shock came 2 weeks later, on June 15... when she was spotted hooking up with Tom Hiddleston! Hiddleswift only lasted for 3 months, though, so the public wasn't as surprised.

Wilmer Valderrama & Demi Lovato

2 days after Talvin's split was announced, Dilmer's own announcement was publicized.

"After almost 6 loving and wonderful years," read the statement posted on her Instagram, "we have decided to end our relationship."

"This was an incredibly difficult decision for both of us," it continued, "but we have realized more than anything that we are better as best friends. We will always be supportive of one another."

Demi has since moved on with UFC superstar Luke Rockhold.

Bella Thorne & Gregg Sulkin

On August 15, after over a year of dating, the Disney Channel alums released a joint statement, announcing that they'd called it quits.

"After much thought and soul-searching," the pair told People, "we have made the difficult decision to end our relationship. We will always love each other and have a deep respect for one another, as we have each grown to be better people because of our time together. Our schedules made seeing each other difficult, and we decided that for now this would be best."

A month later, she began dating his MTV pal, Tyler Posey, and they've been going strong ever since.

Brooklyn Beckham & Chloe Grace Moretz

The teen stars were going strong since April 2016, at the latest, but couldn't make it through the entirety of the summer, calling it quits by August. Guess old habits die hard, huh? You know, considering their first breakup was discussed last September after initially being linked in 2014.

Jake Roche & Jesy Nelson

The Rixton guy and Little Mix girl dated 10 months, starting in September 2014, before getting engaged in July 2015.

Sadly, it doesn't look like they'll be walking down the aisle. In early Novemer, Mixers noticed that 25-year-old Jesy stopped following her 24-year-old fiance, Jake Roche, on Instagram.

Not too long after, Perrie Edwards seemingly confirmed the gossip. In one of the blonde's videos, Jesy & Leigh-Anne Pinnock were spotted singing to a "single women alone together" chant.

Perrie added as a caption, "When single life got you like...The 3 amigos always and forever! + jade [Thirlwall] & jed [Elliott]."

Cara Delevingne & St. Vincent

Despite telling Vogue how "in love" she is with her girlfriend for the magazine's July 2015 issue, and continuing on with the relationship for well over a year after that, Cara reportedly stopped seeing her longtime love, St. Vincent (a.k.a. Anne "Annie" Clark), in September.

According to The Sun, "Cara and Annie still care about each other, but pressures of the long-distance romance just became too much… The cracks were beginning to show on Cara's birthday in August when Annie wasn't there for her party."

Cara has since been linked to Amber Heard, and St. Vincent has since been linked to Kristen Stewart.

Ricky Alvarez & Ariana Grande

Ari's relationship with her backup dancer, Ricky, came to the surface after the infamous #donutgate — yes, he was right there, next to her! So, people say their relationship kicked off back in June 2015.

But their life together wasn't built to last, as she started posting cryptic messages over a year later, in July 2016.

As Ariana always does, though, she moved on quickly, finding love in August with her "The Way" collaboration partner, Mac Miller.

Ryan McCartan & Dove Cameron

When the Liv and Maddie co-stars announced their engagement in April 2016, after nearly 3 years of dating, Disney Channel fans everywhere freaked the eff out. It was like a fairy tale!

But the dream was short-lived. Nearly 6 months later, at the beginning of October 2016, The Girl and the Dreamcatcher was no more. "Dove has decided this relationship isn't what she wants," Ryan wrote on Twitter. "We still love each other very much. Please be sensitive, as this is painful. I love you all. Thanks for keeping me up."

The Weeknd & Bella Hadid

The 20-year-old supermodel and 26-year-old "Starboy" singer, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, were first linked back in April 2015, after he asked her to be in the artwork for his Beauty Behind the Madness album. She since went on to star in the music video for his single, "In the Night."

Sadly, "their schedules have been too hard to coordinate and he is focusing on finishing and promoting his album," according to People in November. However, "they still have a great deal of love for one another and will remain friends."

Lea Michele & Matthew Paetz

After a traumatic 2013, filled with heartbreak due to the shocking death of Cory Monteith, Lea managed to find love the following year in one of the background stars of her "On My Way" music video, former gigolo Matthew Paetz.

That love lasted all the way through 2015, to the beginning of 2016. There were even engagement rumors floating around in late January!

Alas, it was not meant to be. Soon after the engagement rumors spread, the pair reportedly called it quits for unknown reasons.

It wasn't long before there was a new man on her arm, though. In May, reports surfaced that she was hooking up with her co-star from her Hulu sci-fi series, Dimension 404, Robert Buckley. That relationship came to an end in July.

Ryan Dorsey & Naya Rivera

It took only a month of dating for Ryan & Naya to take the plunge into wedded bliss. 'cause, hey, if Big Sean didn't want to keep his July 2014 wedding date with Naya, someone else would (and did).

A little over a year later, in September 2015, their son, Josey Hollis Dorsey, was born.

But by November 2016, the marriage was dunzo. "After much consideration, we have made the decision to end our marriage," the former couple told People in a statement. "Our priority is and always will be our beautiful son that we share together. We will continue to be great co-parenting partners for him. We ask for respect and privacy for our family during this difficult time."

Sami Miro & Zac Efron

NGL, October 2014 was a difficult time for us — that was when we learned that the High School Musical alum was off the market and dating the designer.

But, over time, we learned to accept them as a couple. After all, their Instagram pictures were pretty effing cute.

Then, out of nowhere, in April 2016, Zac completely wiped all evidence of Sami ever existing from his Instagram page. E! News confirmed the split soon after.

Nick Young & Iggy Azalea

The Lakers player and the rapper, who got together back in October 2013, dodged cheating rumors for months before they finally called off their year-long engagement in June. The 26-year-old Aussie star stuck with him after the whole infidelity debacle in April, but after she caught him with other women — yes, plural — on their security cameras, that was it for her.

"I broke up with Nick because I found out he had brought other women into our home while I was away and caught them on the security footage," she tweeted.

"This is just like a second shot to the chest," she continued. "And I feel like I don't even know who the hell it is I've been loving all this time. People in this world really are f*cked up."

Lady Gaga & Taylor Kinney

July 2011 marked the beginning for the "Perfect Illusion" singer and the Vampire Diaries alum, post-meeting on the set of her "You and I" music video.

3 and a half years later, he put a ring on it, signifying their engagement.

Sadly, they separated in July 2016 after months of speculation. "They want to keep it private," reported E! News. "It's heartbreaking."

Amber Heard & Johnny Depp

Amber & Johnny had an... interesting relationship, to say the least. The pair first met on the set of 2011's The Rum Diaries, and kicked off their relationship (publicly, anyway) quickly after his split from longtime love/baby mama Vanessa Paradis, whom he was with for well over a decade but never married.

Amber & Johnny dated for nearly 2 years before the got engaged in December 2013, then got hitched shortly over a year later in February 2015.

Fast forward to May 2016, and s*it hit the fan: they separated. The pair divorced on August 16, 2016, but the proceedings were brutal, with Amber claiming that the Pirates of the Caribbean actor was abusive throughout their relationship.

Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt

It was a split that #TeamJenn fans hoped for long, long ago, yet no one was actually prepared for the fallout of Brangelina.

In September 2016, "Angelina Jolie Pitt has filed for dissolution of the marriage," the actress' rep said in a statement to Us Weekly. "This decision was made for the health of the family. She will not be commenting at this time, and asks that the family be given their privacy during this difficult time."

Documents cited irreconcilable differences as to the reason behind the divorce, after a 2-year marriage, over 7-year relationship prior, plus their six children. However, multiple reports spread that Brad cheated on Angie with Marion Cotillard and that he may've been abusive to the children.

Marion was quick to deny the infidelity rumors, and there's been no proof behind the abuse allegations as of this moment.
